Best Nightclubs in Jakarta [2024]

The following is a ranking of the most happening nightclubs in Jakarta at the moment.

Note: I updated this review of Jakarta's best nightclubs in 2024. The line between a club and a bar can be thin. Some places are great for dancing and drinking but I didn't include them here because I considered them to be bars. Check my guide of the Best Bars in Jakarta for more party recommendations.

Jakarta Clubbing Tips

Here are a few things you should know before heading for a night out:

• If you are new to the city and you don't know where to start, I recommend going to the SCBD neighborhood where you can find several nightclubs and bars that are all within walking-distance from each other (H Club, Lucy in the Sky, Swillhouse, Embassy, Zoo, etc). 5 minutes from there, you can also check all the venues in Senopati/Suryo street.

• Clubbing in Jakarta is rather expensive. Expect to pay IDR150,000 for a cocktail and up to IDR300,000 for the entrance fee (or FDC - First Drink Charge) on weekends. A bottle of liquor normally costs between IDR 1,5 M and IDR 2.5 M (for non-premium brands like Red Label, Smirnoff, etc).

• If you are partying with a small group, it's always better to reserve a table or a sofa. For that, you will need to spend a minimum amount which is typically about IDR 500,000 - 1 million per person. For a group of 4 pax, this means buying 1 or 2 bottles of alcohol. If you don't finish them, you can keep them in storage and drink them another day. The advantage of purchasing a bottle is that you won't have to pay for the FDC.

• Bouncers in Jakarta can be strict. If you are not dressed appropriately, you will be denied entry no matter how much money you are about to spend. Girls should always wear high-heels. Men should not wear a t-shirt, sandals, or torn jeans.

• The DJs in Jakarta nightclubs usually play famous, mainstream international hits (EDM, RnB, Pop). If you want something more edgy, you should try smaller clubs like Zodiac, Fos or Nebula.

• While there isn't a real techno/minimal club in Jakarta (at the time of writing), there are many events organized on a weekly basis in changing locations all over Jakarta. Follow @SALA or @TechnoPartyJKT to know more. FOS has several techno nights every week.

• It is still allowed to smoke inside nightclubs in Jakarta. I hope this changes one day but if you can't stand smoke, head to a rooftop instead. Caspar is also a good option because of its outdoor terrace.

Top Nightclubs in Jakarta:

H Club SCBD

The H Club is actually the biggest nightclub in Jakarta, and even in the whole of Asia. Sprawling on 7000m2, it can accommodate more than 2,000 party-goers on its massive dance floor. It is the flagship property of the HW group, which is also the owner of multiple other nightclubs all over Indonesia (including the very famous Atlas in Bali).

It has a rounded shape with a 10-meter high ceiling and several huge chandeliers. Both the sound and lighting system are top-notch, on the level of the best nightclubs in the world. The special effects are really spectacular, using fire, smoke, lasers, pulsing lights, and LCD screens to change the atmosphere of the club depending on the tunes being played.

The music consists mostly of crowd-pleasers, i.e. famous EDM/Top 40 hits, but this might change if they have a guest DJ. Before midnight, it is actually more like a lounge with live bands playing a mix of Indonesian and international songs. If you come at this time, you can also order dinner.

Don't forget to follow their Instagram account to know about all their special events. Several times per month, they welcome a big international or local artist (DJ, band or singer). They also have regular themed parties, such as Atlas Take Over, Halloween, etc.

Zodiac

Zodiac is an unsophisticated, small club known for its alternative crowd and eclectic DJs (techno, disco, afro, etc). It is a bit cheaper than elsewhere, more relaxed and you don't have a dress code. Perfect if you want to hear something else than commercial EDM.

Valhalla Club and KTV

New and modern nightclub with a strategic location in Senopati. It attracts a hip, upperclass crowd. They have different events and music genre each day of the week: hip-hop, live music, tech house, progressive house, etc.

ZOO

New club with a "safari" theme, opened in the location of the now-closed Fable club, by the team behind Swillhouse. Rather spacious with afrobeats, amapiano music. Popular with foreigners and young Indonesians. Free of charge during the week, up to IDR 250,000 on weekends or if there is an event.

The Swillhouse

This medium-sized club can get pretty wild. It focuses mostly on RnB, hip-hop and reggaeton. On weekends, you won't get much space to move around near the dance floor, but the bar area is quieter. Minimalist/Industrial design (concrete walls, nothing fancy). Average prices. It is in the same building as Lucy in the Sky.

Basque

Not exactly a nightclub, but on Friday and Saturday night, the DJs turn up the music and the dance floor gets crowded with hundreds of people. Among the customers, many foreigners who are chasing girls (and vice-versa). The music is generally Top40/RnB/Old School/Reggaeton. Entrance fee was IDR250k with 2 drinks included the last time I went there.

Brexit Club

Yes, there is a club called Brexit in Jakarta! It is a small place, previously called 999, that is packed on weekends with younger Jakartans in their late teens (sometimes underage as the bouncers don't always check IDs). Not a very sophisticated venue, but it is cheaper than average. Avoid it if you can't stand second-hand smoke.

Also in Kemang, you can go to Nu China which is very similar.

Colosseum

Colosseum is the best nightclub in North Jakarta, and a good place to visit after 3AM. It has an impressive layout, a great lighting system, and almost one worthy event per month. In spite of this, I'm personally not a big fan. My problem is that the crowd is very static, usually just standing around their tables and barely dancing at all. Many of the girls there are escorts from the 1001 karaoke (same building) and they are not particularly fun to hang out with.

Another problem is that it is quite far from the City center. I often fall asleep on my way there. The first drink charge is around Rp200,000, but you can avoid it by purchasing a bottle (recommended).

Embassy Club

Large nightclub located in the Élysée building in SCBD. Popular with Indonesians from the upper-middle class, including LGBT. Music is mostly EDM. Entrance fee is IDR 200,000 on weekends. Ladies' night on Wednesday.
